A fridge or freezer that stops cooling puts food at risk, so finding the cause quickly matters. Most faults sit in the airflow: a stopped fan, a drifted temperature sensor, or a defrost circuit holding the wrong setting while the freezer stays warm.
The pattern often points the way. When the fridge is cold but the freezer is not, or the back wall ices over, these are separate faults. The engineer checks the airflow and the cooling first, before recommending any component.
How the appliance is used matters too. A unit packed to the limit, ice that appears quickly, and a compressor that runs constantly or only in bursts are details that keep the diagnosis an honest one.
Age is judged against value. On an older fridge freezer, where the compressor or control board would cost close to the worth of the machine, replacement is usually fair. The repair figure is set beside the price of a new unit.
Separate fridges and freezers are repaired as well as combined units, along with side-by-side American fridge freezers. A built-in or tall American-style cabinet does not come forward like a freestanding model, so say whether it pulls out easily and whether the rear vent gets the air it needs.
The fixed labour quote covers a full diagnosis. A fan, heater or control item is priced separately and fitted only after you approve the estimate, so the full figures are clear before anything changes.
